"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.... Let it simply be asked, where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education...reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."
George Washington

It is refreshing to be reminded of our nation's leaders and their views of Faith. When we as a nation stopped teaching this part of history to our students we have done the subsequent generations a huge disservice! Not only will they not know about how Heavenly Father was a huge part of the lives of our Forefathers, but also they will not be able to see the Hand of God Guiding and directing this country because all historical documents claiming faith are being challenged and altered, if we do not remind each other, and if we do not fight for our children's right to hear the religous historical factor in this nation's existance, it will lead to this nation's downfall and ruin.
Anyway, I am glad to read any comment from our nation's presidents and hope that you post more of them on the site!
Have a great week!

Hey!
I recently discovered thru genealogy that I am a cousin of Martha D Washington; I am a direct descendent of her cousin! Also, Patrick Henry Married the sister of my direct ancestor, which means I am his niece by marriage. I love learning of my ancestors, especially learning of their efforts to better our world.
I hope you guys are doing well, I know school is back in session; and it might be a while before you see this post, but know you're in my thoughts and prayers!
Angela
